Clean, Then Seal

Limestone cleaning, done at low pressure

Limestone cleaning in Perth’s western suburbs is $7 per m²+GST with a $250+GST minimum, and we clean it at low pressure because limestone is soft. Caleb Gale’s team cleans limestone garden walls, retaining walls, steps, paving and pool surrounds across Fremantle, Cottesloe, Mosman Park and the river suburbs, then seals it if you want it to stay that way.

Limestone is porous, so it soaks up water and holds on to black mould, algae, leaf stains and, near the coast, salt. Blast it at full pressure and the face pits and scars, which then holds dirt even faster. We match the pressure and the nozzle to the stone, so it comes back clean without losing its surface.
What We Clean

Limestone and travertine cleaning in Perth

Four surfaces we clean most often, each at the pressure the stone can take.
01

Limestone walls & retaining walls

Garden walls and retaining walls cleaned at low pressure to lift black mould, algae, and leaf and tannin stains without pitting the face.
02

Limestone steps & paving

Steps, paths and paving cleaned at low pressure, lifting mould, grime and the salt film that builds up near the coast.
03

Travertine pool surrounds

Travertine pool surrounds and alfresco areas, with algae, sunscreen and pool-water marks lifted from the holes and joints, then sealed.
04

Liquid limestone driveways

Liquid limestone driveways and paths are pressure cleaned with a surface cleaner, like concrete, then sealed with our driveway clean and seal service.
Why Seal

Why seal limestone and travertine

Sealing makes porous stone much harder for water, mould and stains to get into, so it stays cleaner for longer and the next clean is easier. On travertine around a pool it also helps against the marks that pool water, sunscreen and spilled drinks leave behind. Limestone usually suits a natural finish that protects it without adding shine, and we clean first and let the stone dry properly before sealing, because sealer over damp or dirty stone locks the problem in.

How we clean each kind of stone

Every stone gets the pressure it can take. Soft limestone is never blasted at full pressure, and older limestone gets the gentlest clean of all.

Limestone walls and retaining walls Low pressure Black mould, algae, leaf and tannin stains
Limestone steps and paving Low pressure Mould, grime, salt film near the coast

Measured, Cleaned, Dried, Sealed

How we clean and seal limestone.

The price is set before we start, and the sealer only goes on once the surface is completely dry.
01.

Look & measure

We look at the stone, measure the area and confirm the method and price before any work starts.

02.

Pressure clean

Low pressure and the right nozzle for the stone, so it comes back clean without losing its surface.

03.

Dry

The surface has to be completely dry before sealing. If rain comes in, we move the sealing day rather than seal damp paving.

04.

Seal & cure

Sealer goes on evenly once the stone is dry, with the edges done carefully, and we tell you how long to keep off it.

Fremantle & The Coast

Limestone in Fremantle and the coastal suburbs

Fremantle is full of limestone, from cottage walls and front steps in Beaconsfield and White Gum Valley to courtyards behind the West End. Older limestone is softer again, so it gets the gentlest clean of all. In Swanbourne and along the coast, limestone garden walls and paving face the sea breeze, and salt adds to the mould, which is why sealing is worth it on the seaward side. Travertine is popular around pools and alfresco areas in the river suburbs, and that’s where pool water, leaf litter and summer use leave the most marks.

Yes, as long as the pressure is kept low. Limestone is soft and porous, so high pressure pits the surface. We use low pressure and the right nozzle for the stone, so it comes back clean without losing its surface.

Sealing is worth it if the limestone gets mould, salt or stains back quickly, especially on shaded walls and seaward paving. It makes the stone much harder for water and mould to get into, so it stays clean for longer. We clean and let it dry before sealing.

Yes. We clean travertine pool surrounds and alfresco areas at low pressure to lift algae, pool-water marks and grime from the holes and joints, then seal them, with sealing quoted after we see the stone. The glass pool fence can be cleaned in the same visit.

Yes. Liquid limestone is cleaned like a concrete driveway, at $7 per m²+GST, and can be sealed with our clean and seal service from $15 per m²+GST for one coat.
